Annual Parent Questionnaires

Following our first parents’ evening this academic year,  all parents were given the opportunity to complete a questionnaire regarding our school. Thank you to all those who completed our survey. Here are the results from the 87 responses received:

Contacting school / your child’s teacher:

Daily Contact: The children are collected from the playground at the start of each day and brought back out at the end of the day. This is a good opportunity to quickly mention something to class teacher relating to your child.

Make an appointment: Sometimes you may wish to discuss an issue in more depth and we would ask you to either talk directly to your child’s class teacher to arrange an appointment or contact the school office who will be more than happy to arrange a suitable time to come in.

Parent Voice: Our parent governors hold a half-termly meeting for parents to come in and discuss issues relating to the school from a pre-planned agenda. Dates for these will be advertised in the Newsletter and agenda items sought by letter prior to each meeting.

Twice-Yearly Parents’ Evenings:  This provides all parents with the opportunity to speak to your child’s class teacher and have a look at your child’s work over two evenings. If you are unable to attend on these dates, an alternative appointment can be made directly with the teacher.

Annual Parent Questionnaire: We carry out an annual survey to gauge parental opinion on the broader aspects of our school and assimilate these views in to our school development plan. Please see the results on the Parent Voice page of our website.

Parent View: Ofsted have their own communication tool which allows parents to record their views about a school. We encourage parents to use this facility to record their views. Please find a link to this website on the Parents Links Page.

Message from the Chair of Governors

October 2016

As ‘Chair of Governors’ I would like to welcome everyone to the new Academic Year.

Over the last 12 months the ‘Dove Shell Federation’ has been extremely successful.

Ofsted inspections took place at both schools. St Thomas’ was rated ‘Outstanding’ and East Crompton St James’ has been upgraded to a very well-deserved ‘Good’.  Both schools worked very hard for their gradings and the Governors are proud of everyone for all that has been achieved.

Both schools have exceptionally strong leadership from the Executive Head Teacher Adam Laskey, who relentlessly strives to ensure the very best education for all our children.

It’s great to welcome newcomers to the Federation; with 80 children in the schools’ Nursery and Reception classes and 4 new members of staff. I wish them all a happy, enjoyable and successful time with us.

I have visited every class in both schools during the 1st week of term.  It was lovely to see well-designed classroom/curriculum features and well behaved, happy and observant children keen to learn.

Only the best education is ever good enough for young, willing and active minds and with everyone’s hard work, support and commitment, I am sure this will continue to be achieved in a happy environment.

Best wishes

Kathryn Jackson
