SPORTS PREMIUM REPORT

What is the Sports Premium?

The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide new primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

Purpose of the funding:

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this.

USE OF FUNDS AT EAST CROMPTON ST JAMES’ CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

In the Academic Year 2014/15, St James received £8,890 sports grant.

Using our Sports Premium together with St Thomas’ Moorside CE Primary School’s allocation, we have now employed a full time specialist Sports Coach to work in both Schools – Mr Adam Young. Our coach works alongside all teachers to help them develop professionally and provide improved PE at St James’. This will have a lasting impact on the quality of Physical education children receive. Mr Young has written a bespoke PE Scheme of Work and he also leads lunch-time sport activities for all children and two after school clubs (one per key stage). Adventurous activities are also provided for upper key stage 2.

Impact of Funding 14/15

All PE lessons have been greatly enhanced by the specialist provision. Children in Reception Class made accelerated progress in the Physical Development area of EYFS. The after school clubs have involved children from Rec to Year 6 in weekly sports, additional to PE provided in the school curriculum, including athletics, games for Reception children, handball, volleyball and football. Adventurous Activities have included trampolining, orienteering, cross country running and boxercise.

Continued Use of Grant 2015/16

We will continue to use the Sport Premium Grant to employ our Sports Coach alongside St Thomas’ Moorside.
